Allison is an experienced appellate attorney and advisor. She enjoys researching legal arguments, writing appellate briefs, and presenting oral arguments in state and federal courts of appeal. Allison frequently consults with trial attorneys on preserving the record on appeal, preparing complex trial and post-trial motions, appellate procedure issues, and questions of legal interpretation. She feels lucky to have a career helping others navigate the appellate process after a judgment is issued, and is passionate about using her best skills to achieve the right result for her clients.

Allison received her law degree in 1999 from the University of Texas School of Law, and has spent most of career practicing and teaching appellate litigation. After law school, Allison clerked for the Hon. Judith M. Barzilay on the United States Court of International Trade in New York, and then joined Holland & Knight, LLP’s white collar criminal defense group in the New York office. In 20016, Allison left private law practice and joined the law school faculty at Duke University School of Law. Allison taught lawyering skills, including first-year and upper-level Iegal writing and appellate advocacy at Duke Law School from 2006-2011, at Atlanta's John Marshall School of Law from 2011-2013, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law from 2013-2015. Allison returned to private practice in 2016 with the opening of Kort Law Firm.

Allison frequently teaches continuing legal education courses on appellate law and practice throughout the Kansas City area. She is an active member of the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, and participates in the AWL Foundation’s Denise Henning Connections mentorship program, which pairs new women attorneys with mentors who have been practicing longer than five years. Allison has written amicus briefs as a volunteer attorney for the ACLU’s affiliate offices in Kansas and Missouri, and represented victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking through the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence Legal Assistance for Victims Project. Allison lives in vibrant Westwood, Kansas, and enjoys traveling, cooking gourmet meals, and spending time with her family.

Stephen has over 40 years of experience providing a full line of labor and employment legal services, and representing clients before the state and federal courts of Kansas and Missouri, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and local and state-wide fair employment practices agencies. He also provides complete legal services to institutions of higher education, including employment and Title IX work. Stephen has represented clients before the federal and state courts of Kansas, Missouri, New York and Colorado. He is an approved arbitrator hearing cases in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He is also a certified mediator for the State of Missouri.

Prior to law school, Stephen had a career in music education.  He held faculty appointments at the University of Kansas and Duke University where he taught piano, piano pedagogy and music history.

Stephen is active in his community where he has served on Boards and held officer positions at the Youth Symphony of Kansas City (President), the Kansas City Camerata (officer), Village Shalom (officer), and Congregation Beth Shalom (officer). Over the years he has given piano recitals at local Continuing Care Retirement Communities.

Stephen is an avid hiker, having trekked many trails in Kansas and Missouri with excursions to the mountains of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado North Carolina, New Mexico, New York, Alberta, and British Columbia. Stephen is a committed gardener and canine aficionado. Stephen is also a dabbler in Spanish language and culture, and enjoys traveling to Europe, the Middle East and South America.
