Kort Law Firm was co-founded by Allison and Stephen Kort in 2016 as a boutique appellate litigation firm, centrally located in Kansas City, Missouri. We specialize in representing clients in various state and federal courts of appeal throughout the country. Much of our work is devoted to preparing appellate briefs, presenting oral arguments before appellate court judges and justices, and consulting with trial attorneys on issues of civil procedure, legal analysis, creating the trial record, preserving questions of law for review on appeal, and preparing post-trial motions.

Allison received her law degree in 1999 from the University of Texas School of Law, and focused her career on practicing and teaching appellate litigation. Allison clerked for a federal judge, joined Holland & Knight’s New York office as an associate, and worked with a small plaintiff's firm before switching to legal academia full time. Between 2006-2015, she taught lawyering skills including first-year and upper-level Iegal writing and appellate advocacy at several law schools including Duke University School of Law, North Carolina Central University School of Law, Atlanta's John Marshall School of Law, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Allison feels incredibly fortunate to have a career she loves, using her best skills to positively affect others. She has successfully represented clients in federal and state appeals concerning a range of substantive legal areas, including:

  • Family and Child Custody Law

  • Civil Rights and Constitutional Law

  • Employment Discrimination

  • Title IX

  • Civil RICO

  • Higher Education
